Description
Sunderland Farmhouse is a house that has been converted into two cottages, dating from the 16th century. It features a timber frame with exposed close studding and plaster infill, topped with a plain tiled roof. The left side of the front was rebuilt in the 17th century using red brick in English bond. The building has a lobby entry plan with four framed bays and is two storeys high, showcasing a continuous jetty supported by dragon posts. The hipped roof has stacks positioned to the centre right and a projecting offset stack at the end left. The first floor has three wood casement windows, three blocked window openings, and two oriel windows on the ground floor, along with a blocked opening to the right. A plank and stud door is located at the centre right, framed by a moulded four-centred arch. At the rear, there is a catslide outshot. Inside, there is a fireplace dated 1675, and Selby notes traces of a central hall and screens passage.
