Description
The Batteries is a house dating from the 17th century, with early and late 19th-century alterations. The rear range is timber framed and rendered, while the front range is made of painted brick, topped with a plain tiled roof. The entrance front features two storeys and has a modillion eaves cornice above a hipped roof, with stacks on both the left and right sides. An early 19th-century iron verandah creates an arcade across the front, which has been bricked in, and it extends over a recessed two-bay extension to the left. The wall was rebuilt in the late 19th century. There are three glazing bar sash windows on each floor, and a central panelled door flanked by sidelights, topped with a rectangular fanlight and a pedimented hood supported by large consoles. The right return front has two storeys set on a brick plinth, jettied at the first floor, featuring two bargeboarded gables and a hipped roof with a gablet. An oriel window is present on the first floor, along with segmental bay windows on the ground floor.
