Description

Jefferies is a house dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. It is timber-framed with exposed structure, plaster infill, and a plain tiled roof. The house has an L-shaped plan, with the shorter wing originally built in the 15th century. It is two storeys high and features continuous jettied eaves, supported by dragon posts to the left and brackets to the right. The left side of the building has large, panelled framing, while the right side has close-studded framing on the ground floor, with large panels and wavy bracing on the first floor. The roof is hipped with a gablet to the left, a catslide extending to the left, and a stepped eaves line to the right where the two wings meet. A stack is located at the rear right. The first floor has three wooden casement windows, and the ground floor has two segmental bay windows. The right-hand wing has a five-light mullioned window with side lights, and the left end has a three-light mullioned window. A plank and stud door is located on the left side. Inside, there is a crown post on canted tie beams. Evidence indicates the original extent of the older wing.
