Description
Reed Beds, also known as the Samuel Palmer School of Fine Art, is a private house, originally four cottages. Its structure likely dates to the 16th century, featuring a framed construction with exposed timber framing and brick infilling on the ground floor, and plaster infilling above. The east-facing elevation displays this timber framing. The south elevation, facing the street, is constructed of 18th-century painted brick with moulded eaves and gutters, topped by a hip ridge tiled roof that extends as a lean-to on the side. Various modern square-paned lattice windows have been added, and there is evidence of modern restoration work. The house is likely the oldest in the village and was originally built as two "Hall Houses.” The attic contains a King post.
