Description
This is a group of 24 cottages, numbered 2 to 40, on Lime Tree Walk, excluding numbers 29 and 31. Designed by Sir Thomas Jackson and constructed between 1878 and 1882, they were intended as a housing experiment for working-class residents within a high-class residential area. The cottages are two storeys high with attics. The ground floor is built of red brick, while the upper floors are stuccoed. The eaves overhang and are stepped in sections, and the roofs are tiled. Dormer windows are present. The windows are casements, and a central shaped Dutch gable is visible on the building that incorporates what was formerly a coffee-house (now part of number 22), with a bay window on the ground floor.
