Description

Lady Boswell's School is a building dated 1818 located on the east side of London Road. It features a three-window facade and stands two storeys tall. The central part of the building has a pediment and slightly projects forward, while the supporting features on either side are recessed and raised, topped with a parapet that includes an entablature band and cornice. The corners of the parapet are adorned with four ornamental stone balls.

The elevation is constructed of coursed local stone, with random stone and flint infilling on the first floor in the center and to the right. The supporting wings also have parapets made of random stone, and there is a continuous plinth. Above the ground floor windows in the center and to the right is a band.

The center features three large modern windows with vertical and horizontal glazing bars set in recessed stone arches, with panels of random stone below the sills. To the left, there is a modern door accessed by two projecting stone steps, topped with a flat stone lintel and set under a round-headed stone arch. To the right, there are 19th-century panelled double doors, also accessed by two projecting stone steps, with a fanlight above and contained under a corresponding round-headed stone arch.

On the first floor, there are five large windows with vertical and horizontal glazing bars, each with flat stone lintel arches above. The projecting cills of the three central windows are connected to a torn string course. The central feature includes a projecting moulded stone pediment, which has a rectangular stone plaque in the center with an inscription, topped by a carved stone shield adorned with swags.
