Description
The Black Boy Public House is a late 18th-century building located on Bank Street. It features a painted brick exterior with a random stone plinth and stands two storeys tall with a three-window facade. The building has projecting eaves and a gutter with a plastered soffit, topped by a hipped tiled roof that slopes to the left.
On the ground floor, there is a central half-glazed and panelled door, which is sheltered by a flat projecting hood supported by brackets. To the right of the door is a casement window set under a flat, segmental brick arch. To the left, there is a half-glazed and panelled entrance to the saloon bar, which includes side and top lights within a pilastered frame, topped with an entablature featuring a carved corona and enriched ovolo moulding.
The first floor has two tripartite sash windows with glazing bars on either side and a recessed brick panel in the centre. A painted figure of "The Black Boy" is positioned in the centre, supported by a projecting triangular-shaped bracket. At the rear of the public house, there is a yard that contains various gabled outbuildings from the 16th or 17th century.
