Description

This is a row of late 18th century cottages located on London Road. The row consists of eleven cottages, numbered 83 to 93, with number 83 being slightly recessed from the rest. Number 83 is two storeys high and has a random stone plinth, red brick on the ground floor, and a rendered second floor. It has a tile roof, hipped on the left side. It features a sash window on the ground floor and sliding casements on the first floor. Cottages 85 to 93 are primarily red brick, although parts of the exterior have been covered with a cement slurry. These cottages are three storeys high and have five square, projecting bay windows, which are unevenly spaced and extend up two stories. The two bays to the left (numbers 85 and 86) have rendered fronts and large, glazed windows on the ground floor, with square-paned casements above. The three bays to the right (numbers 87 to 93) have red brick fronts on the ground floor and rendered fronts above, with square-paned casements on both floors. All five bay windows have flat, leaded roofs. The cottages have two pairs of coupled cottage doors, each set under a flat segmental brick arch. Numbers 91 and 93 each include a single door situated beside a projecting bay. The second floor features five sliding casements, which are widely and unevenly spaced. Cottages 73 to 93 form a group.
