Description

A late 17th-century barn with 19th-century alterations and an attached mid-19th-century oast is situated on a brick and stone plinth. The barn's exterior is clad in corrugated iron sheeting, with a mainly plaintiled roof, although the southwest section is pantiled. A brick and tiled lean-to pigsty is located on the southwest side. A double cart entrance features prominently. The barn is arranged as a threshing barn of five bays, with an aisle to the northeast; the northern end was originally floored over, while the southern end was floored in the 19th century to create a grain store. The timber frame incorporates good quality timbers with a midrail and curved tension braces. The posts are mostly jowled. The roof is an angled queen strut roof, incorporating 19th-century rafters, thin purlins, and a ridgepiece. Face-halved and bladed joints are visible on the wall plates. The central bay is said to retain a wooden threshing floor. Attached to the northwest is a mid-19th-century circular brick oast, featuring a dentilled eaves cornice and a conical roof without a cowl, but with a fantail. The oast retains its drying floor.
