Description

Rectory Cottages, comprising numbers 1 and 2, is a late medieval timber-framed building, possibly originating as a small hall. It has a later front elevation, two storeys, and forms a group with The Leicester Arms Hotel (Nos 1 & 2, Leicester House) and The Buxton House Stores. The ground floor is brick, the first floor is plastered, and the roof is covered with ridge tiles, featuring one hipped end and a ridge stack. There are two plain front doors with carved, bracketed hoods above them, and leaded casement windows. The side elevation exhibits half-timbering with exposed framework, plaster infilling, and a stone plinth. Internally, some timber framing remains exposed, as do the remnants of an inglenook fireplace.
