Description
The Old Guildhouse is a building dating from the 16th century or earlier, currently divided into two cottages. It is a framed half-timbered house that is well-preserved, featuring two storeys and gable end windows. The roof is covered with ridge tiles and has a central stack. The windows have diamond panes, and the first floor overhangs, supported by carved wooden brackets. The building has a mix of partly boarded and partly plaster infilling, with modern shingle gable ends and a brick and stone plinth. Dragon beams are present at all four corners, and there is an extension to the west that is in keeping with the original structure. The Old Guildhouse is part of a group that includes Wall Cottage, Nos 1 to 3 (consecutive), the Archway, the Old Guildhouse itself, and the Post Office and Retaining Wall.
