Description

The listed building comprises a pair of cottages on the south side of High Street, Chevening, Chipstead. Dating to the 18th century, the front elevation is of red brick with blue headers. A random stone plinth and a brick band run horizontally across the facade, topped by brick dentilled eaves and bracketed guttering. The roof is covered in ridge tiles with end stacks, and incorporates two hip dormers with moulded eaves and square-paned casement windows. Four 18th-century sash windows are set in moulded frames, with their bars intact; the ground floor windows are topped with painted stucco flat arches. A recessed brick panel is centrally positioned on the first floor. Two 19th-century panelled doors are located in the centre, raised by four stone steps and set within moulded frames, each protected by a continuous projecting flat hood supported on carved console brackets. There are two basement lights. A long, rear lean-to extension has the appearance of the 17th century, suggesting a possible earlier core to the building.
