Description

Whitewood Cottages is a cottage located on Eynsford High Street, with its front dating from the early 19th century and the rear parts from the 16th and 17th centuries. The front is finished in stucco and features a tiled roof with one painted brick chimney stack. The cottage is two storeys high and has one window. The ground floor includes a casement window with a cambered head and a left side doorcase topped with a flat wooden eaves hood. The rear elevation retains part of a 17th-century gable, which is clad in brick on the ground floor and weatherboarded above, and shares this gable with No 2. It has a casement window and a plank door. Inside, the front room features an early 19th-century cambered brick fireplace and a wooden corner cupboard with curved shelves, along with an earlier horizontal wooden beam. The first floor displays an exposed close-studded wall, some framing with jowled posts and curved tension braces, pegged rafters, and several plank doors.
