Description

Foxwold is a house that likely dates from the early 17th century and was refronted in the late 18th century. It underwent changes in the 20th century, including new windows fitted into existing openings. An extension added in 2004 to the north, along with a conservatory, is not considered of special interest.

The house is timber-framed and primarily features Flemish bond brickwork with grey headers on the ground floor, while the first floor is tile-hung. It has a tiled roof with an end brick chimney stack, which is concealed by the later extension, and an additional brick ridge stack. The building is two storeys high with attics in the gable end and has an irregular arrangement of windows, including two on the front elevation. The windows are casements, some of which have leaded lights. The layout consists of a two-bay house with an end chimneystack, an outshot with a catslide roof, and an L-shaped wing.

On the exterior, the front elevation features two triple casement windows and a wide central doorcase with a plank door. The right side has one casement window on the ground floor and an attic window in the gable end. The rear elevation includes a projecting gabled extension.

Inside, the ground floor has an open fireplace with a wooden bressumer and spice holes, along with exposed spine beams and floor joists. The first floor contains a smaller open fireplace in the principal chamber, a spine beam, exposed floor joists, and gunstock jowled posts. The attic features a roof structure with pegged rafters, clasped purlins, collar beams, and some diagonal tension braces. There is also a 17th-century plank door beside the chimneystack in the attic.

Overall, Foxwold is a largely intact early 17th-century timber-framed building that was refronted in the late 18th century and retains a clear plan form. The 2004 extension and conservatory do not contribute to its special interest.
