Description
Boy Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with a slightly earlier wing at the rear and late 18th-century alterations. The building is timber framed, with the front elevation featuring red and grey brick in Flemish bond on the ground floor and mathematical tiles on the first floor. The right gable end is also clad in mathematical tiles. The rear of the left gable end and the rear wall are framed in small panels, some close-studded and some with decorative ogee bracing. The rear wing is timber framed with broadly spaced studding and plaster infilling. The roof is covered in plain tiles.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, set on a brick plinth, with a plat band in Flemish bond. It has a boxed wooden eaves cornice and a projecting brick stack in English bond on the left side, featuring a moulded plinth, offset tumbled brickwork at the shoulder, and an octagonal flue with a renewed moulded cap. There is a central rear brick stack with two star-plan flues joined to a central rectangular pier, all topped with cornices. A plain, slightly projecting brick stack is located on the right gable end.
The fenestration is irregular, consisting of four broad leaded casements with top lights; three of these have three lights, and one over the door has two lights. The panelled door has six small top lights and is sheltered by a flat hood, accessed by three steps to the right of centre. A rear stair turret is positioned immediately to the left of the central stack, and the rear wing, likely part of an earlier house, is located to the left of centre.
Inside, the farmhouse is said to contain a newel staircase, panelling, and carved door heads. The roof, visible from the left gable end, features clasped purlins with diminishing principal rafters.
