Description

The Cottage is a house located on South Street in Barming. It features a mid-19th century facade that likely covers a building from the 17th or early 18th century. The exterior is made of painted brick, with the left gable end rendered. The house has a plain tile roof and stands two storeys high with an attic, set on a painted stone plinth. It has a bracketed eaves cornice and a half-hipped roof, topped with a central brick chimney stack and two hipped dormers. The front is arranged with three windows, each containing 4-pane sashes with horns, set in open boxes. The central entrance has a panelled door topped by a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars, and is sheltered by a consoled hood that features a broken-based triangular pediment. At the rear, there is a lean-to addition, and to the left, a low single-storey L-plan extension with two half-glazed doors. The interior has not been inspected.
