Description
Old Tiles is a house, possibly formerly non-domestic, dating from the 16th century or earlier, with later alterations. It features a timber frame, with the ground floor of the right end bay rendered and a central stud, while the rest is constructed of red and grey brick in Flemish bond. The first floor has exposed framing with plaster infilling. The roof is covered with plain tiles, and the right end bay may have been rebuilt in the 18th century. The building has two storeys and a stone plinth that is higher on the right bay. The left and central bays have broadly spaced studding, with two tension braces of uneven scantling in the left bay. The right bay has close-studding of thin scantling, a straight tension brace, and a thinner midrail. The roof is hipped, and there is a slightly projecting gable end stack on the left. The fenestration is irregular, featuring two 2-light casements, one in the centre and one on the right, along with a pegged cill of a blocked window towards the centre and a blocked doorway to the right of the central bay. There is a stable door in a 20th-century single-storey extension on the left end, as well as a rear lean-to. The interior has not been inspected.
