Description
This is a 14th-century barn located about 25 metres south-west of Brishing Court in Boughton Monchelsea. The barn is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a stone plinth, with a tiled roof. It features six timber-framed bays, with front and rear aisles, constructed at right angles to the road. There are midstreys to the second and fifth bays from the road (east). The roof is hipped, and the barn has two small paned windows. There are double doors on the south side of each midstreys and on the north side of the east midstreys. A gabled porch with double doors rises from the aisle to the north side of the west midstreys.
Inside, the barn has gunstock-jowled principal posts that are arch-braced to the arcade plates and to slightly cambered tie-beams. The posts rest on wooden cills on stone plinths. The interior also features plain crown-posts with foot and head braces, curved passing shores to the aisles, reversed assembly to the aisles, and arch-braces to the aisle walls. The arcade plates are joined with edge-halved scarf-joints and soffit keys.
