Description

This is a barn located about 10 metres west of Wanshurst, dating from the 16th century with later alterations. It is timber framed and sits on a stone plinth. The left end of the front elevation is rendered above the midrail, while the rest is covered with weatherboarding. The barn has a hipped roof made of plain tiles and consists of three timber-framed bays arranged at right angles to the road. There are central full-height double doors at the front (north) and a front lean-to on the left. Inside, the barn features gunstock-jowled posts, high lapped collars, and a lower inserted clasped purlin with nailed collars. There are arch braces supporting the side walls and the centre of the gable ends, with gable-end tension braces trenched past the midrail. The north-east corner has daub and stave infilling.
