Description

Barn. Dating to the 16th century, it is timber-framed and built on a rubble stone plinth, with weatherboard cladding and a stone slate roof. The barn originally comprised five bays, with an added stable bay at the west end. A central opening is present on the north side, without doors, and a small doorway is to the left. A hipped loading bay leads to the loft, with a planked door to the right. A collar and tie-beam roof with curved bracing between jowled main posts and tie-beams is found within the barn, alongside butt purlins, curved wind bracing, and heavy scantling timbers. Stud holes suggesting wattle and daub infill are visible on the lower side of the wall plates. The west side of the barn has been altered with the insertion of a loft into two bays. A one-bay stable, possibly dating to the 17th century, features a cobbled floor and mangers built against the end wall of the main barn.
