Description

No. 50 High Street is a semi-detached house dating from the early 17th century, although it was rebuilt in the early 19th century. The structure features timber framing with brick nogging and has been refronted in painted dressed limestone. It has a Welsh slate roof and rendered stacks, forming an L-plan layout.

The house is two stories high with three windows across the front. A 20th-century four-panelled door is located to the right, framed by a pilastered architrave, while two 12-pane sash windows are positioned to the left. On the first floor, there are three sash windows. The left wing projects and contains 12-pane sashes on both floors, along with a 19th-century square pilastered porch that has a four-panelled door and a flat-roofed extension to the left. The right return is made of dressed limestone and features a two-light ground floor casement window.

At the rear, there is a 20th-century door to the left, a glazed door and a large fixed window, along with a three-light casement to the right, and five three-light casements on the first floor. A lean-to extension is attached to the right side of the house.

Inside, the property has timber-framed partitions, with the main drawing room showcasing a chamfered beam and an open fireplace with a timber lintel on stone jambs. The dining room in the cross wing features a moulded ceiling beam and exposed wide joists. The house served as the Long estate office until the mid-20th century.
