Description
This barn, located about 40 metres north-east of Great Pagehurst Place, was originally built in the later 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is timber-framed and has been clad in weatherboarding, resting on a stone plinth. The roof is covered with plain tiles and is hipped. The barn has four timber-framed bays. There are full-height double doors to the front, situated in the second bay from the left, and lower double doors to the rear. A lean-to has been added to the right, alongside a single-storey brick outbuilding.
Inside, the barn features gunstock-jowled posts and arch-braced tie-beams, although some of the braces are missing. The roof structure consists of staggered butt-purlins with collars, with replacements to the front of the two bays on the left. There are small, almost straight tension braces above the midrail. The original studding is present, although it has been replaced in the front of the bays on the right. The barn is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
