Description

A farmhouse, now a house, dating to the late 16th or early 17th century, with alterations in the 19th century. The house is timber-framed and has a lobby entry plan. The ground floor is built of red and grey brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while the first floor is tile-hung. The roof is covered with tiles. The original layout appears to have been one timber-framed bay to the left and three bays to the right of a central stack bay. The bays to the right were divided to create a single-bay room immediately to the right of the stack and a two-bay room at the right end.

The house is two storeys high, set on a low brick plinth, and has a half-hipped roof. A brick ridge stack is located to the left of the centre. The front has an irregular arrangement of four casement windows: a four-light window to the left, a small three-light window under the stack, another three-light window to the right, and a four-light window at the right end. A three-light diamond mullion window is located at the rear, on the right side. A ribbed door is set within a gabled brick porch, which is situated under the stack. A lean-to addition is present at the rear, on the left.

The interior was only partly inspected. Exposed timber framing is visible, as is a chamfered axial beam and a brick fireplace in English bond with a wooden bressumer, in the room to the right of the stack. Also noted were a chamfered cross-beam and broadly-chamfered joists in the right end room. The building was formerly known as Wanshurst Green.
