Description

Court Farmhouse and Barn is a building that dates from the early 18th century and originally served as a barn, stable, and maltings, but is now used as a workshop and farmhouse. It features chequered red and grey brick and has a plain tile roof. The structure is two storeys tall and stands on a slightly proud stone plinth. The elevation is divided into seven bays, with two-storey brick panels that project slightly forward, flush with the plinth. The central bay has a plain panel, flanked by two plain panels, and there are broad bifurcated panels towards each end. The south gable end is shaped, while the north has rendered coping. There are two patches of corrugated asbestos near the ridge on the second and third bays from the left. The building includes two eaves dormers to the right of the centre and a small two-light casement window in the right bifurcated panel. Throughout the structure, there are blocked ventilation slits. A boarded door leads to the first floor in the left bifurcated panel, and there is a stable door on the ground floor of the left end bay. A boarded door is located at the base of the left plain panel, and there is a low blocked opening at the base of the right plain panel. A blocked doorway with a semi-circular head is found in the right end bay. Central to the building are double doors at a single storey, which are weatherboarded above and set under a full-height three-centred arch with brick voussoirs and a proud brick keystone. The interior has only been partially inspected, revealing a stable on the ground floor of the left end bay, a slatted floor, and a lathed ceiling with circular vents in the second and third bays from the left. The farmhouse occupies the right half of the building, which forms the east side of an open courtyard.
