Description

Chart Place is a house with a core dating back to the 16th century or earlier. It was partly rebuilt in 1708 by Sir Christopher Desbouverie and refaced during the early and mid-19th century. The house is rendered with a plain tile roof. It has two storeys and attics.

The ground floor has banded rustication, and the facade features a narrow painted string above the ground-floor windows and a moulded string above the first-floor windows. A balustraded parapet runs along the roofline, with rendered coping to the gable ends. Gable end and one rear stacks are present, along with three flat-roofed dormers. The front has a regular seven-window arrangement of 12-pane sashes, with moulded rendered architraves; the three windows to the right are more closely spaced. A half-glazed door, set slightly off-centre to the right and up four stone steps, is topped by a decorative rectangular fanlight and fluted wooden pilasters. A mid-19th century rendered porch with a balustraded balcony is in front of the door. Single-storey extensions, matching the style of the main house, extend to the right and left, each with two blind windows and a balustraded parapet. Narrow terraces with four steps to either end flank the porch. The interior has not been inspected.
