Description

Divers Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was formerly a set of cottages. It dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the late 16th to early 17th century and further changes in the late 18th to early 19th century. The building is timber framed, with the front elevation clad in red brick featuring occasional grey headers in Flemish bond. The first floor has a central recess that is tile-hung, while the ground floor on the left gable end is made of stone. The structure has two nearly equal-length hall bays and a storeyed bay at each end, standing two storeys high with attics. The right and left end bays project slightly. The roof is hipped with gablets on the left and three-quarters hipped on the right, featuring dormers on the left hip and at the front. There is a brick stack on the front slope of the roof to the right end of the left bay of the hall. The windows are irregularly arranged, consisting of four casements: one three-light in each outer bay and in the right hall bay, and one two-light above the door. The ground-floor windows in the outer bays have segmental heads. There is a ribbed door at the left end of the left hall bay. Inside, the farmhouse features exposed framing, moulded end-of-hall beams, and moulded beams supporting the inserted floor. There is a four-centred arched fireplace with long spears in the spandrels, ovolo-moulded mullion windows with diamond subsidiary mullions, and a moulded crown post.
