Description
Maplehurst is a house from the early 19th century, possibly with an earlier core, located on Frittenden Road in Staplehurst. The building has undergone later alterations. The ground floor is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, while the first floor features tile-hanging. It has a plain tile roof and stands two storeys high with an attic and cellar, all on a chamfered brick plinth. The eaves are boxed, and the roof is hipped with a brick ridge stack positioned to the right of the center.
The house has two hipped dormers, each with 2-light casements and moulded cornices, flanking the stack. The windows are arranged irregularly, featuring five leaded casements: one 2-light and one single-light on the left, and a regular three-window front with two 3-light and a central 2-light casement. There are tripartite sashes on either side of the porch, along with a 16-pane sash to the left. The porch is rectangular, flat-roofed, made of red brick, and has a moulded cornice with Gothick side lights beneath the second window from the right. It features panelled double doors that are accessed by four steps.
At the rear, there is a two-storey parallel range built with the same materials, starting behind the stack and extending to the left. This range has a hipped roof, a projecting gable-end stack to the left, and a ridge stack to the left of the center. It includes one hipped dormer and two casements on the front. The interior has not been inspected.
