Description
West End Villa is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, possibly with an earlier core. It is constructed of red brick, mainly in Flemish bond, with the rear wall tile-hung on the first floor and a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and features an Ionic modillioned wooden eaves cornice, along with projecting gable end stacks.
The front facade has a regular arrangement of three windows, consisting of two 12-pane glazing bar sashes in open boxes and a central Venetian window with splayed brick voussoirs. The central entrance is a panelled door with a rectangular top light set within a panelled recess. This is framed by a wooden architrave featuring unfluted Doric pilasters, fluted pilasters above, and a broken-based pediment adorned with Ionic modillions. A semi-circular fanlight is included within the architrave. The entrance is protected by a 19th-century brick porch that has a half-glazed 20th-century door. At the rear, there is a single-storey 19th-century addition with a half-hipped roof. The interior has not been inspected.
