Description
Linton Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century. The ground floor features a chequered pattern of red and grey brick on the left end, with red brick in Flemish bond to the right of the porch. The first floor is tile-hung, and the gable ends are constructed of red brick in English bond. The roof is plain tiled and the building has two storeys and attics. Notable architectural details include a finely-dentilled wooden eaves cornice and gable end stacks. There are two flat-roofed dormers with leaded lights and a regular three-window front consisting of two tripartite sashes and a central 12-pane sash. The ground floor tripartite sashes are fitted with shutters. The central entrance features a panelled door with top lights, a three-light fanlight, and a short flat hood supported by shaped brackets. At the rear, there is a lean-to addition.
Inside, the right ground-floor room is panelled below a moulded dado rail, and it has a fluted and corniced fireplace surround with a moulded overmantel. The fireplace is flanked by cupboards with shaped shelves. The staircase, dating from the late 18th century, has lightly-moulded newels.
