Description

Three Chimneys is a house dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed, with the ground floor of the front elevation featuring a chequered pattern of red and grey brick, while the first floor is weatherboarded. The rear of the house shows exposed framing with plaster infilling and has a plain tile roof. The layout is likely a lobby-entry plan.

The rear elevation is symmetrically divided by full-height posts into six units, consisting of three timber-framed bays. The left end has a short bay with one unit, the center has a longer bay with three units and a stack in the third unit, and the right end has one timber-framed bay with two units. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a rendered plinth and square panelling featuring two panels per storey. There are two tension braces and a half-hipped roof with a gablet on the left.

A red and grey brick stack in English bond is slightly to the right of the center, set at right angles to the ridge and has three diagonally set corbelled flues. There is a hipped dormer and irregular fenestration with three windows: one 2-light leaded casement towards each end and one 5-light ovolo-moulded mullion window under the eaves beneath the stack. A 2-light ovolo-moulded mullion window is located on the ground floor to the left of the door, which is a boarded door under the stack, set in a re-set moulded 4-centred arched architrave. There is a lean-to on the left end of the elevation.

Inside, the house features exposed framing, chamfered tooled stone fireplaces with wooden bressumers, and butt purlins.
