Description
Forge Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century or earlier. It has a timber frame construction, with the ground floor featuring brick in stretcher bond on the left and left-central bays, while the right-central and right end bays are rendered. The first floor has exposed framing with rendered infilling. The roof is covered with plain tiles and is steeply pitched with a hipped design, including a gablet on the right. The cottage faces south and is built at right angles to the road, standing two storeys tall with a stone plinth.
The facade is divided into four timber-framed bays by principal posts, with the right-central bay being narrower than the others. The studding is broadly spaced, and there is a higher midrail in the two central bays. A tension brace is present in the right end bay. The windows are irregularly placed, featuring a four-light diamond mullion window in the left-central bay and a small two-light casement in the right end bay. There is slight evidence of a blocked doorway beneath the stack, which is a brick ridge stack located in the right-central bay. A half-glazed door is situated towards the centre of the right end bay.
Additionally, there is a short two-storey addition on the left gable end, with a brick ground floor, a weatherboarded first floor, a plain tile roof, and no first-floor windows. The interior has not been inspected.
