Description
A row of houses dating from the 18th century, situated on Benover Road in Yalding. The ground floor is built of red and grey brick in a Flemish bond pattern, although Nos. 3 and 4 have been painted. The first floor is clad in weatherboarding. The roof is covered in plain tiles and has a gabled gambrel form. Each gable end features a stack, with three additional stacks evenly spaced between them. There are eight flat-roofed two-light dormers, two positioned between each stack. The windows are a mix of eight casements; two are three-light and the remaining six are two-light, with varying pane arrangements, mostly wooden, with three, seven and eight from the left date to the late 19th or early 20th century. Doors are arranged in pairs, positioned under the gaps between the first-floor windows. These are half-glazed at Nos. 1 and 2, 3 and 4, boarded at No. 5, panelled at No. 6, and boarded at Nos. 7 and 8, the right-hand end. A flat, bracketed hood shelters the entrance to No. 1, and a continuous flat, bracketed hood covers the entrance to Nos. 7 and 8. The interior was not inspected. The cottages are included in the listing for their contribution to the wider group value of the surrounding buildings.
