Description

Elm Corner Farmhouse is a late 16th or early 17th century farmhouse, with a later 18th or early 19th century addition to the right. It is timber framed and now functions as a house. The ground floor is painted brick, while the first floor is tile-hung, topped by a plain tile roof. The original house consists of two timber-framed bays, with a stack bay added later in the 16th or 17th century. An additional bay was constructed in the late 18th or early 19th century to the right. The left section of the house is two storeys with a garret, built on a low brick plinth, while the right section is two storeys. The right section is slightly recessed. The left section has a half-hipped roof, and the right section a gable roof with a lower ridge. Gable end stacks are located at the right end of each section. The windows are irregularly placed, featuring three 2-light windows: two horizontally-sliding sash windows to the left section and one 2-light casement window to the right. A blocked door is centrally located on the left section, and a boarded door with a central rectangular light is at the left end of the right section. A 19th century lean-to is attached to the left side, using matching materials, and a rear lean-to is also present. The interior features exposed timber framing with tension braces to the partitions, and a mortise for a diamond mullion window is visible in the left gable end.
