Description

The pump adjacent to No 30 High Street in Headcorn is a late-19th century painted iron water pump. It features a tapering reeded shaft with a ring-moulded base set on a square plinth. There is a decorative ring inspired by water-leaf motifs towards the center of the shaft. The conical cap is ribbed, while the handle and spout are plain. Originally located on the High Street, the pump was moved to Day's Green in the later 20th century but was later returned to its original location on the High Street. This pump is noted for its architectural interest as a good example of a late-19th century water pump that reflects the historical use of utilities.
