Description
This barn, located about 26 metres north of Blackmoor Farmhouse, dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a plain tile roof. The structure consists of three timber-framed bays and features a central midstrey. It has a brick plinth set on a ragstone base and a hipped roof with gablets. The front (north) side has central full-height double doors, while there is a pedestrian door at the rear. Lean-tos are weatherboarded and located on both the right and left gable ends, as well as on the right side of the front elevation.
Inside, the barn has gunstock-jowled posts and arch-braced tie-beams. The roof is a clasped-purlin type with diminishing principal rafters, high collars, and a complete set of windbraces. There are intermediate collars between the trusses and tension braces that are trenched past the midrail. An arch-braced central stud is present in the left gable end, and the front wall and gable ends feature lath and daub infilling above the midrail.
