Description
This barn, located about 70 metres north-northwest of Gatehouse Farmhouse, dates from the 15th or early 16th century. It has a timber frame, with the front elevation covered in weatherboarding. The left gable end features red brick in Flemish bond below the midrail, with some bricks having ventilation holes, and exposed framing with tension braces and tarred stave and straw daub infilling above. The right gable end has tension braces that are trenched across the outer face of the midrail, with boarded staves below and plastered stave and straw daub infilling above the midrail. The barn has a steeply-pitched hipped roof covered with corrugated iron and consists of three timber-framed bays with a central midstrey. The central entrance has double doors. Inside, there are gunstock-jowled posts, plain crown posts each with four head braces, and lapped collars.
