Description
No 2 on Lower Stone Street is an early 19th-century building that stands two storeys tall and is finished in stucco, with a rusticated ground floor. It features a string course, cornice, and parapet. The front has three sash windows with intact glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are round-headed windows framed by moulded architraves, set within arcading that has a keystone above. The first floor has tall square-headed windows with architraves, with the central window topped by a pediment.
The building is flanked by slightly recessed single-storey wings, each containing a doorway topped with a balustraded parapet. The south wing has an additional first floor with a small window. The doorways in these wings are round-headed; the north doorway is set in arcading with a semi-circular tympanum and features a door with six rounded panels, while the south doorway has pilasters, a projecting cornice, a semi-circular fanlight, and a door with six fielded panels. A curved stone staircase with iron railings leads to the entrances.
Nos 2 to 8 (even) are part of a group.
