Description
11 Lower Stone Street is an early 18th-century building that stands three storeys tall. It has been refaced with stucco, with the lower half of the ground floor designed to resemble masonry through grooving. The building features a hipped roof covered with old tiles and a heavy cornice with modillions at the eaves. The corners are accentuated with long and short quoins, and there is a dentilled cornice above the ground floor.
The facade includes four sash windows, each surrounded by moulded architraves with intact glazing bars. The doorcase is notable for its grooved pilasters and a projecting cornice that extends across the entire facade but is more pronounced than the rest. It features a rectangular fanlight above a door made up of eight fielded panels. Inside, there is a well-crafted staircase with two twisted balusters on each step and scrolled ends on the treads, as well as a fine 18th-century fireplace adorned with swag moulding.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 11 to 17 (odd).
