Description

Nos 1-4 Lime Terrace is a row of houses located on the west side of High Street in Staplehurst. The building dates from the 17th century or earlier, with possible later additions on the right and a 19th-century facade. The ground floor is constructed of red and grey brick, while the first floor features banded plain and fishscale tiles. The roof is covered in plain tiles and is two storeys high, set on a brick plinth. The base of the tile-hanging steps up towards the left end, and the roof is hipped to the left, with the hip returning to the rear. There is a short stretch on the right end with a lower ridge. A multiple brick ridge stack is located towards the left end, and there is a rear stack towards the right. The building has irregular fenestration with six wooden casements, consisting of five three-light windows and one single-light window under the stack. There are four boarded doors: one for No. 1 at the left end, one for No. 2 between the third and fourth windows from the left, one for No. 3 between the fourth and fifth windows, and one for No. 4 towards the right end. The structure also includes two short conjoined rear wings to the left and centre, and another at the right end, with a rear lean-to between them. The interior has not been inspected.
