Description

Vine House is a house dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, with alterations from the later 19th century. The front facade is built of buff brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while the sides are of red and grey brick, also in Flemish bond. It is a double-depth house with three storeys, set upon a brick plinth. A raised stone plat band runs between the ground and first floors, and above the second floor. The roofline has a plain parapet with stone coping, and gable end stacks. The front has a regular five-window arrangement of recessed 12-pane sashes with splayed, rubbed brick voussoirs above each window. A round-headed stair window is located towards the rear of the right gable end. A later 19th-century canted buff brick bay window with a leaded roof extends from the left end of the ground floor. The central entrance has a half-glazed door with a rectangular fanlight featuring radiating glazing bars, sheltered by a Doric porch. Single-storey flanking walls extend to either side of the entrance, featuring a stone band below a plain parapet, with a doubly-recessed round-headed doorway on each. The left-hand doorway is blocked, while the right-hand doorway has a panelled door and a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars, leading into a single-storey section along the right gable end. A panelled door with a flat, moulded hood resting on scrolled and foliated brackets leads up five stone steps to the right side of the single-storey section. A two-storey section is situated towards the rear of the right gable end. The interior has not been inspected. See also the separate listing for item 5/140.
