Description
Meopham War Memorial is made of Portland stone and is located in the northern corner of Meopham Green, facing the road within a small garden. The memorial features a stone cross that rises from a moulded collar on an octagonal shaft, which stands on an octagonal stone plinth with a slight cornice and a two-stepped octagonal base.
The principal dedicatory inscription around the circumference of the plinth’s cornice reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF MEOPHAM WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918." The names of those who lost their lives are inscribed on the faces of the plinth.
At the foot of the memorial, there is an additional stone tablet that commemorates the losses from the Second World War, which bears the inscription: "AND TO THOSE WHO FELL IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939-1945" along with 14 names.
Flanking the Second World War tablet are two grey granite flower vases, although these vases are not considered of special interest.
