Description
Martello Tower (No 14) was built in 1806 as part of the coastal defense system against a potential invasion from Napoleonic France. The tower features a skin of Flemish bond facing brick that is set flush with the masonry coping and door surrounds, replacing the usual rendered finish. The walls are 5½ to 6 feet thick, and the structure is built around a central column that is 5 feet thick. It consists of two storeys and has a flat roof that serves as a gun platform.
