Description

Martello Tower No 6 was built in 1806 as part of the coastal defenses. This circular tower is constructed of brick, with walls that are 5½ feet to 6 feet thick. Most of the cement coating has worn away. Inside, there is a central brick pillar with vaulted arches springing from it. The ground floor housed the magazine, while the upper level contained quarters for the garrison, divided into two rooms, and featured a gun emplacement on the roof. Surrounding the tower is a ditch with ramparts lined with brick, and there is a dilapidated drawbridge. The tower has one chimney, and the entrance door is located about 6 feet above the ground.
