Description
The Former Animal Pound is a Grade II listed structure made of Kentish ragstone rubble, topped with a single course of stretcher bond brick and curved bricks above. It features a triangular enclosure, with the longer sides oriented towards the north-west and north-east, and the shorter side facing south.
The walls stand about 1 meter above ground level. The north-west side remains mostly intact, although a short section at the northern end has been restored in the late 20th century with a flat coping and cement mortar. The south side is also largely intact, with some restoration work done at the western and eastern corners using cement mortar. The north-east side is intact for approximately 6 meters at the northern end, which has been replaced with brick in English bond during the late 20th century. The original gates of the pound have not survived.
