Description

This is an early 19th-century house located at 3 Military Road. The building is constructed of red brick laid in Flemish bond, with the basement painted and the paint removed from the ground floor. It features a hipped tiled roof and has a rectangular footprint aligned east to west.

The house stands three storeys above a basement and has a narrow street frontage facing east. The doorway is situated in the southern part of the frontage and is framed by a reeded timber surround with decorative paterae. The upper part of the doorcase is covered by a later lead cover. There is one window on each storey in the northern part of the frontage. The ground-floor window opening appears to have been widened and contains horned sash frames. The first-floor window opening is narrower, featuring a gauged brick cambered arch and also contains horned sash frames. The second-floor window opening shows signs of alteration, with a course of bricks laid on end creating a flat arch that cuts into the cornice, and this opening contains casement frames. The building is topped with a brick dentil cornice. A sloping brick wall encloses the external stair leading to the basement, which is accessed through a narrow doorway with a small window to the north.

The interior of the house was not inspected during the re-assessment in 2020. The property is separated from the road by iron railings with spear finials set on a dwarf wall, and the gate's railings feature fleur-de-lys finials.
