Description

No 112 on Mongeham Road is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with later alterations from the 19th century. The building is timber-framed, although the weatherboarding at the front has recently been removed. The right-hand end is constructed of Flemish bond brick, with a weatherboarded gable above. It features a steeply pitched thatched roof, which is half-hipped at the left end and gabled at the right end, where it abuts No 110. There is a brick axial end gable stack.

The house is one storey with an attic and has an asymmetrical three-window front. The right window is a 16-pane sash, the centre window is a 12-pane horizontally sliding sash, and the left window is obscured by shutters. There are two plank doors, one to the right and one to the left of centre. High up in the roof, there are two small dormers, each with a very small horizontally sliding sash that has glazing bars, and the sections of roof below each dormer are clad in slate. Additionally, there is a small 6-pane casement window in the left-hand end wall. The rear elevation has not been inspected, and the interior has not been examined. It is likely that the original layout was a three-room plan, with the centre and right-hand rooms heated by the axial and gable end stacks, respectively, while the left-hand room was probably unheated.
