Description
Chillenden Windmill is a post mill type windmill built in 1868 and restored in 1958. It features timber construction that is faced and roofed with white painted weather boarding. The windmill has a gambrel-shaped roof and a prow-shaped canopy that extends towards the sweeps. It stands on a large central post, which is supported by cross-beams at the base, and has a tail pole that is now fixed by access stairs leading to double boarded doors. The sweeps are still intact and include ratchet gear for adjusting the angles of the vanes. This windmill is notable for being the last built and the last remaining post mill in the county.
