Description
Stevington Windmill is a post-mill that dates back to 1770, as indicated by one of the crosstrees. It was rebuilt in 1921 and restored in 1951. The windmill features a two-storey body that is timber-framed and clad in pitch pine weatherboarding, topped with a gambrel roof made of corrugated iron. It has four common sails, which are no longer covered. The internal machinery has been completely restored and is in workable order. A roundhouse surrounds the base of the windmill, which was likely added in the 19th century and is constructed of rubble with a tiled roof. This windmill is notable for being the only complete windmill remaining in Bedfordshire and is probably the last windmill in England to operate with four common sails.
