Description
Outwood Post Mill is a post mill built in 1665, which has been restored in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features an oak substructure set on a whitewashed brick circular base topped with a felt pent roof. The mill is weatherboarded above and has 4-inch slatted pine sails. There are steps and a post at the rear, with a board door located under a shallow pent roof. The sides of the mill have two casement windows and boarded openings at the rear, along with additional doors that have transom lights on the sides of the circular base.
Inside, the mill machinery is largely in working order. The oak crowntree, which is 21 inches square, is inscribed with the date 1880. This mill is reputed to be the oldest working windmill in the country.
