Description
The Griffin's Head Inn is a public house dating from the 15th century. It features a timber-framed structure with exposed close studding and roughcast infill, while the left return elevation is made of roughcast brickwork. The roof is plain tiled and the building follows a Wealden hall house plan with four framed bays. It has two storeys and a basement, with a rubble and brick base. The end wings on the left and right are jettied on dragon posts. Above the recessed centre, there is a flying wall plate with an arched brace to the right and a central cantilevered brace. The roof is hipped, with a cluster of stacks at the center, a gable to the left, and a stack to the right. On the first floor, there are two wooden casements and a horizontally sliding glazing bar sash to the left, while the ground floor has two wooden casements. There are remains of a mullioned hall window to the center left and a basement opening to the right. The left side features a six-panel door and a half-glazed door to the right. An outshot is present at the right end, and the rear elevation displays large panel framing. Inside, the full frame is visible.
